Why Do We Need More Sustainable Travel?

In order to keep travel a possibility for generations to come, we all need to do our part to reverse climate damage and protect the planet we live on. Some impacts that travel have on the environment and how we can fix them:

As we continue to pollute our planet, air temperatures rise, speeding up the rate at which the ice caps melt. As a result of this:

  • Our planet’s “air conditioning” melts away and loses its ability to cool our planet
  • Ocean currents can no longer travel properly, causing volatile weather conditions
  • Fish lose vital feeding grounds
  • Sea levels rise, causing loss of coastal land in many parts of the world

As a result of unprecedented levels of transportation, including the use of cars and planes, we’re emitting more CO2 than ever before. As a result of this:

  • Air quality in major cities is at an all time low, with many people already dying as a result of air pollution
  • The CO2 and harmful gasses emitted get stuck in our atmosphere and block the sun’s heat from escaping, causing the planet to heat up
  • Eventual heating of the planet due to our poor air quality leads to increased levels of drought and famine

With more consumer demand than ever before, we’re currently using up resources quicker than the planet can recover them. As a result:

  • Animals lose their habitats and we’re losing vital species
  • Our depleting forests can no longer absorb as much CO2 as they used to
  • Emissions from mining and drilling continue to heat our planet up
  • We’re destroying natural reserves of resources that our planet needs in order to function healthily
